I am writing this review to encourage everyone to buy the Sigma DG 52mm Multi-Coated UV Filter if they are looking for good quality filter at reasonable price and to boost up the small review number that made me reluctant to buy this product at the begining.
I started my filter UV journey with a $5 Sunpak and even though it is not multicoated it presented a good build quality and camed in perfect condition. Then I went for 600+ reviews of 52mm Tiffen UV filter that was around $10 and... returned it the minute it arrived! The surface was scratched and full of smudges! The 90 1 star reviews do not lie...
Now I have Sigma UV filters on all of my lenses. The minute I got my first one I ordered two more. The build quality is superior, the multicoated glass is great- cannot tall it is there. No reflections in any conditions. Even the metal ring is very well built and provides great grip.
The last thing that makes the Sigma DG 52mm Multi-Coated UV Filter great: It is considerably thinner than either Sunpak or Tiffen filters and that is an important feature. My filters can therefore live on my lenses and I do not have to take them off if I want to use another filter. Even with a CPL filter stacked on top of it(which is the bulkiest since it must spin on its own)there is just a tiny barrel efect when I am fully out at 18mm on my Nikkor 18-55 VR but just go to 20mm and beyond and it is gone!

Description of Sigma DG 52mm Multi-Coated UV Filter
This high-quality Sigma UV Filter blocks the invisible UV component of light from the sky, which can cause blur and to which many color films react with a blue cast. UV Filters are ideal for photography in high altitudes (in the mountains), by the sea and in regions with very clean air. The pictures gain brilliance and disturbing blue casts are avoided. Because the glass is colorless, color rendition is not altered, aside from the elimination of the unwanted blue cast, and no increase in exposure is required. The colorless glass also makes a UV Filter very suitable as protection for the front element of your lens against dust, flying sand, sea water spray and the like, and it can be kept on the lens at all times. It is recommended for color and black & white film, as well as digital photography. Multi-Layer Coating for Superior Protection: Sigma has treated this filter with a multi-layer coating process, which, in addition to its UV-blocking qualities, makes these filters especially scratch-resistant.
